Lambda Pi Eta, the Communication Studies Honor Society (Gamma Tau chapter) has been honored with the 2008-2009 Most Improved Student Organization Award. Presented annually by the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement, this award recognizes the club or organization that has made significant strides towards achieving its goals. The awards competition is open to over 220 campus organizations and groups at West Chester University.

Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) would like to recognize the tremendous commitment and outstanding achievement of the 08-09 Executive Board, Chairpersons, and all LPH members who collectively made this award a reality. Those people who were the forefront of revitalizing the organization during the past two years include Ashley L. Miller, Colleen Murphy, Nathan Kutz, Michael DeSumma, Tiffany Thornton, Ashley Tressler, Jessica Madeira, Jennifer Padron, Erin McVay, Courtney Conigliaro, Elizabeth Van Osten, Kristen Fulmer, Erinn Carey, Allison Brochet, and advisor Dr. Ola Kopacz. As a result of their combined efforts, membership increased by more than 200 percent, seven new committees were formed, and all of LPH’s goals were either met or exceeded.
Senior Communication Studies undergraduate Nathan Kutz will continue as President in the 2009-2010 academic year. His vision for the future is to plan and implement several large events, such as the Communication Showcase or a Panel Discussion about careers and graduate opportunities in the field. Working collaboratively with Executive officers and members of LPH, he will continue to build service-learning relationships with the community as well as recruit new members into this prestigious society. Serving as an officer in the 2009-2010 year will be Vice President Erin McVay, Secretary Danielle Masland, Treasurer and Fundraising Chair Erinn Carey, Service Chair Emily Bass, Public Relations Chair Jessica Shultz, Social Chair Katie Polyak, Peer Mentoring Chair Elizabeth Van Osten, Research Chair Christina Fleck, and Events Chair Heather O’neil.
Lambda Pi Eta’s mission statement is to stimulate interest in the field of communication, promote professional development, and explore graduate school opportunities. Members are required to have a minimum 3.25 GPA for at least 45 completed college credits and a minimum 3.50 GPA for at least nine completed Communication Studies credits. Members are formally inducted at an annual ceremony in the spring.
