Rob Lathan of Improv Everywhere will be joined by one of Philadelphia's Finest in room SSL-151 on Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m. Come see these panel members discuss how communication is leveraged through new media to create temporally ephemeral groups with no history and no future. Organizers use viral email and social networking sites to disseminate meeting and group task information (i.e. large 10 minute pillow fight) to members. The panel will discuss issues related to the drive to belong, new member recruitment, and the use of social influence techniques in viral marketing. We will be exploring the Light Side of flash mobs, wherein members take enjoyment out of violating social norms in a pro-social way, and the Dark Side of flash mobs, wherein members feel a degree of anonymity akin to being in a mob and engage in destructive activities (i.e. riots, property damage). All are welcome!
Haven't seen a flash mob? Check out the one that was just done on the campus of West Chester University!
