Ola Kopacz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies. She studies intergroup communication (especially the dimensions of race and culture) and the role of media in that process. She is particularly interested in the potential of the new media to carry the voices of marginalized ethnic groups.
Her current projects include a study of YouTube portrayals of Native Americans and an examination of the effects of mainstream U.S. media products on European viewers.
Dr. Kopacz's articles have appeared in the Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, Electronic Journal of Communication, Human Communication Research, and Communication Teacher. She has taught courses in media effects, communication research, communication theory, and public speaking.
She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Arizona and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Warsaw University in Poland. Dr. Kopacz is the faculty advisor to the WCU chapter of Lambda Pi Eta. She is also the author of Communication Research and Writing Resources, a reference tool designed for students who need help researching and preparing their papers.
